New Child Jealousy

December 11, 2007 Family and Parenting | FamilyHelpTree @ 9:32 pm

Many first born and/or younger children get jealous when a new baby is born. There are several reasons for this including fear of the unknown, a lower amount of personal attention, simple jealousy, annoyance at a new crying baby, and much more. In order to limit the negative effects of a new baby on another child here are some important tips:

1. Remember to set aside special one on one time with your other child

2. Introduce a baby doll that cries before the birth so your child is used to it and the sound

3. Explain several times about the new baby

4. Get the older child to help with the new baby in small ways such as bringing a new diaper

5. Praise your older child

6. Emphasize that they are a big boy and have more responsibility and freedom
