Mysterious Allergic Rash on Young Children

September 20, 2007 Family Health,Family and Parenting | Comments (2) FamilyHelpTree @ 5:47 pm

Many people have told me about mysterious rashes on small children that are very red and sometimes with raised white bumps or blotches. These are usually caused by an allergic reaction but are often not effectively stopped by changing a child’s diet or by changing soaps or detergents. The effect of this rash can often last for several weeks and then clear itself up. If the child begins to be bothered by the rash or experiences difficulty breathing then administering a small single dose of children’s benadryl will often alleviate the symptoms. Please contact a doctor if the child has trouble breathing but otherwise the mysterious rash will often work itself out in a period of a few weeks.

  1. One of my girls had this mysterious rash a couple years ago. She missed several weeks of school because nobody knew what it was! They couldn’t tell me what, why, how, or if it was contagious. It was horrible looking all over her face. Really bad. I was worried that she’d scar afterward but it cleared up without a problem.

  2. My nearly 2-year-old daughter has had this mystery rash for almost two weeks. we took her to the doctor twice in that time, and the doctor doesn’t know what it is. After the second visit, we were advised that it “might” be contagious and to keep her home. However, no one she has been in contact with, including my husband and I, have any sign of developing the rash, and my daughter is healthy in every other way (no fever, etc). In fact, I think she is even more active! She does complain of itching at times, but other than that, there is no sign of anything wrong other than the red blotches on her arms and legs. Anyway, after the non-answer from my doctor, I have been researching rashes for days, and nothing seemed to fit what my daughter has. I was therefore glad to come across this post. I feel a lot better knowing that this is likely what it is starting to appear to be – another weird but mild childhood illness. Thanks for the info.
