Lots of sick kids

May 29, 2008 Family Health | Comments (0) FamilyHelpTree @ 6:25 am

There are lots of sick kids out there this week. I am not sure what is happening but many of them have either some kind of disease, broken limbs, eye infection, cough, cold, or other problem. Most of the parents are out and it seems to have something to do with the Holiday weekend. Maybe the changing weather? Please keep your kids well rested and healthy foods in them to avoid your own medical disasters.

Caring for an injured child

May 12, 2008 Family Health,Family and Parenting | Comments (0) FamilyHelpTree @ 5:29 am

Caring for an injured child is never easy, especially if the injury is a broken leg, and the child is two. With all the extra time diapering, extra fussiness, and extra sympathy involved, it can really wear down the parents. I’ve learned to take each day as it comes, and look for the light at the end of the tunnel, knowing that the cast will soon come off. If you find yourself in the same situation, it’s helpful to check the internet for suggestions from other parents in the same situation, because having help from people who have been there before you is important.

Rash under the Cast

Family Health | Comments (1) FamilyHelpTree @ 5:27 am

My son is developing a rash under his cast. He had a broken bone and needs to be in the cast for quite a few weeks. At first there were no problems but now there is a terrible rash under his cast. We began padding it with maxi pads and putting some cream on it regularly. The doctor says to use a little fan to try and dry it out and continue the padding and the cream.

Difficult Week

May 1, 2008 Family Health | Comments (0) FamilyHelpTree @ 9:50 pm

This has been a difficult week. My son has been feeling sick and is not sleeping well. Lately we have taken to having him sleep in our bed with one of us and the other parent out on the couch. I hate to do this but it is necessary. Otherwise both of use go with very little sleep as he constantly needs help to go back to sleep. Hopefully he will get better soon and start sleeping well. I just hope we are not building a bad habit.

Broken Leg!

April 25, 2008 Family Health | Comments (0) FamilyHelpTree @ 4:34 am

My two year old son just broke his leg! It was a crazy freak accident and I cannot believe that much damage was done. Every other similar fall resulted in a small cut or bruise at best. Now he has a spiral femur fracture. My poor two year old son has to be in a body cast for 6 weeks. It is a huge blow and he is very sad about not being able to play outside. Hopefully we will heal soon and get better as fast as possible.

Scarlet Fever

April 18, 2008 Family Health | Comments (0) FamilyHelpTree @ 4:22 pm

There seems to be some Scarlet Fever making it’s way around. My nephews and nieces all seem to have caught it. Fortunately it is not serious but it does seem very contagious. We had to cancel a birthday party and several get togethers to ensure a long enough recovery time. We don’t want any one else getting infected. Scarlet Fever? Can you imagine? I haven’t heard of a case of that for a long time.

Different Types of Thermometers

April 11, 2008 Family Health | Comments (0) FamilyHelpTree @ 4:06 pm

There are many different types of thermometers to use on your child:

1. Rectal Thermometers

2. Electronic thermometers

3. Glass thermometers

4. Rolling head thermometer

5. Ear thermometer

As a parent you quickly learn that a sick and combative child requires the fastest possible thermometer. Because of this I recommend the rolling head thermometer.
